    What the calculator measures

It starts with every woman in the age range you chose, keeps the single ones, then applies each of your standards to whoever is left. The result is how many women meet all of them at once, and what share of all women that age that is.

Here is how a typical list plays out for men looking for a woman aged 22 to 30 anywhere in the US.

    StandardsWomen who fitShare
    Single, isn't obese6.6 million1 in 3
    …has a degree, doesn't smoke2.4 million1 in 8
    …and wants children1.4 million1 in 14
    Single, 5′6″+, degree, isn't obese470,0001 in 41
    Single, 25–35, earns $100k+1.2 million1 in 20

Share is out of all women of that age in the US, married or not. Estimates from this calculator, rounded.

    Where men's pools shrink

For most men the age range does the heavy lifting. Narrowing it from ten years to five halves the pool before any other filter. After that come height (fewer than 1 in 5 women are 5′6″ or taller), education and wanting children, which drops quickly with age.

The number that surprises men most is being single: by the early thirties well over half of women are married or living with a partner, so the starting pool is smaller than it looks.

    How to read your result

1 in 10 or better is realistic: plenty of women fit. 1 in 10 to 1 in 50 is selective. 1 in 50 to 1 in 200 is demanding: look at which step cuts the most. Rarer than 1 in 200 means you won't meet her by chance, and the way you search matters more than the apps you use. For men with a demanding list and little free time, a private matchmaking service for men is often the faster route.

    Questions people ask

What is the male delusion calculator?

It's a dating pool calculator set up for men looking for a woman. You choose her age range, and standards like education, fitness, not smoking and wanting kids, and it estimates how many single women in the US or your city meet all of them, using Census and CDC data.

How many single women are not overweight?

CDC data puts adult obesity at about 42%, so roughly 58% of women are not obese. Among single women aged 22 to 30, that leaves about 1 in 3 women of that age who are single and not obese.

Are men's standards really that high?

Men's lists tend to be shorter than women's but stack in the same way. Single, 22–30, a degree, doesn't smoke and isn't obese already leaves about 1 in 8 women that age. Add wanting children and it's about 1 in 14.

Is the male delusion calculator accurate?

It's an estimate built on US government surveys. Filters are treated as independent, which makes strict combinations look a little rarer than they are, because education and health tend to go together.

    Does the calculator include looks?

No. Attractiveness has no reliable population data, so we leave it out. The calculator only uses traits that national surveys measure.
